The band together

The Marias is an American indie pop band from Los Angeles. Thee band performs their songs in both English and Spanish, with elements like jazz, guitar riffs, and horn solos. The lineup consists of Maria Zardoya, Josh Conway, Jesse Perlman, and Edward James. The band has released two Eps and two albums, their best album being Submarine which was released in 2024.

History

The Marias was named after their lead vocal, Maria Zardoya. Maria was born in Puerto Rico and grew up in Atlanta, Georgia. Maria and Josh met at a show at the Kibitz Room, which is a bar and a music venue in Canter's Deli, Los Angeles. She was performing and Josh was managing the sound, shortly after, they started writing songs and began dating. They debuted their closest friends to join their band.

The band was offered to make songs for television, when their plans did not happen, they created an EP called "Superclean Vol. 1", superclean was released in 2017, and they created volume 2 in 2018.

The song, "No one noticed" from Submarine became a viral song in social media, reaching 22 on the Billboards. They received their first Grammy nomination for Best New Artist on the 68th Annual Grammy Awards.

They've been an active band since 2016, their genres revolving around indie pop, indie rock, alternative pop, psychedelic soul, dream pop, and synth-pop.
