#1 - No one noticed

Photo of a girl underwater.

"Hold me, console me, and then I'll leave without a trace."

English Extended: "I wanted to stay. Wanted to be there. Wanted to hold you. But I -- I was afraid. Wanted to be there. I should've told you."

No one Noticed is about wanting connection in the modern, digital, world. The main character feels like their feelings are being overlooked, and just wants validation from others. She craves intimacy in a world full of virtual connections.

This song is their most popular song on their album, I think it's popular because a lot of people are able to relate to the lyrics. Nowadays, relationships are online, connections are online, virtual. Finding genuine connections in real life is hard and that point is being shown in this song.

#2 - Sienna

A photo of underwater life.

"Ooh, Sienna would've been cute. Ooh, Sienna would look just like you."

Sienna is about the unborn child of the main singer, Maria, and her ex boyfriend, Josh. In this song, Maria is exploring the what-if's of the relationship her and Josh could have had. Sienna was the name of their daughter Maria had imagined.

#3 - Lejos de Ti

A photo of glowing water at the beach.

"Why do I still love you? I can't take it anymore. I'm dying in your hands."

Lejos de Ti is a song about a break up song, focusing on the memories of the relationship. The main vocal, Maria repeats "I always remember you" and the other contrasting lyric, "Don't forget about me" where she begs for her ex lover to always remember her as she is far away from her lover.

#4 - Echo

A photo of two people, blurred out.

"But I wasted it all for nothing. For a light that'll never last. Now I stand at your front door, hoping that you'll take me back."

Echo is a song about being unable to let go of a relationship after it ended even though the main character knows its time to let go. Echo represents the memories of the relationship that stay after the relationship ended.

#5 - Real Life

A photo of the Submarine album cover.

"We tried, but, I'm walking away from you. Something I gotta do."

Real Life is a song about long distance relationships, where the main character is yearning for a genuine physical connection instead of facetiming. The main character doesn't feel a genuine intimacy and decides to leave from the relationship even if it hurts them.

This song can relate to a lot of people, especially with the rise of social media, you get to meet more people online, and the feel of having something real isn't there anymore.

#6 - Paranoia

A photo of a girl floating underwater, hugging her knees.

"Why do you think I have another? When you have always been the one? Your paranoia is annoying, now all I wanna do is run away."

Paranoia is a song about feeling suffocated by their partner, where the partner is insecure and paranoid (that there's someone else) even though the main character always gives them reassurance and love with their presence.

I think this song is one of my top 7's because I heavily relate to it from both perspectives. Feeling suffocated by an insecure partner drains you a lot, especially if the partner knows there's nothing to worry about, but they're still insecure about it. The story telling from this song is great, and the way Maria describes the main character's experience with their partner is great, and the untold thoughts from the main character perfectly describes how they feel about their partner.

#7 - Love you anyway

A photo of the band underwater doing poses.

"I know that you've always been in love with me. But I know you've also had to watch me leave."

Love you anyway was originally called "Song 1" in the album before it released. This song is about the main character not being able to fully express their feelings to their loved one and thinking about leaving. It's filled with rejection, misunderstanding and needing to leave due to their insecurities.

Overall

Overall, this is a great album with great story telling. The messages behind the song and how Maria sings the songs feels more personal, which makes the album better.
